Frequently asked questions about BEP 2008

1. When does the program begin? End?

The Binghamton Enrichment Program begins on Sunday July 6th. This is a residential orientation program. Students will be housed on campus in Newing College, Chenango Hall for the duration of the program.

The program ends Saturday August 2nd.

This is a mandatory program for EOP admitted freshmen.

This program is free for all EOP admitted students.

2. What should I do if I have a conflict with the BEP dates
(July 6 – August 2nd)?

Students who feel that they have a conflict with the BEP dates need to speak with the (interim) director, Vanessa Young.

3. Is transportation provided?

Yes. Transportation to and from BEP is provided at no cost. Students must reserve their space by calling Chris Lee. Letters will be sent out to all admitted students with details.

Buses will be loading at Penn Station 31st and 8th Avenue in Manhattan. Buses depart at 10:30 AM and arrive at Binghamton University at approx. 2:30 PM.

Buses will return to NYC on Saturday August 2nd, departing from Newing College, Binghamton University at noon and will arrive in Manhattan at approx. 4:00 PM.

4. When is the Diagnostic Testing for BEP?

If you live downstate in the NYC metro area, mandatory testing and info session will be held on Saturday May 31st at the Urban Assembly School of Business for Young Women, located at 420 East 12th St. NY, NY. (more details on eop.binghamton.edu/bep)

If you live in upstate NY, the mandatory testing will take place at Binghamton University on Saturday June 7th, Lecture Hall 3. There is no transportation provided.

Letters will go out to all admitted students soon.

5. Can students leave on a weekend or weekday and be back before curfew?

No, students are not allowed to leave for a weekend without the director’s permission.

Yes, students are allowed to leave campus during the day as long as classes are not in session and there are no other scheduling conflicts with mandatory programs. Students must return by curfew.

6. Can students receive mail?

Yes, have it sent using the following format:

Students will not receive overnight mail sent between Friday and Saturday.

7. Can students receive phone calls?

Yes, they all have phones in their rooms. They can receive calls, and they can make local calls however, they cannot make outgoing long distance calls. Please contact the student for their room telephone number.

8. Can students have a car?

Yes, but they are responsible for parking and permits. They are not allowed to have a car on campus during their freshman year.

9. Can students have visitors in the building?

No, except immediate family members with the permission of their peer counselor.
